My Fitness Evolution: Why It’s Okay to Change
What if your fitness journey wasn’t about getting it “right” but about allowing yourself to grow?
So many of us start our fitness journeys with a clear goal in mind—maybe it’s running a marathon, lifting heavier, or getting that six-pack. But what happens when our goals change? When do the workouts that once felt exciting now feel like a chore?
In this episode of Broads Podcast, Tara gets real about her fitness evolution—how her relationship with movement has shifted over time and why it’s perfectly okay (even necessary!) to let go of old goals in favor of new ones.
If you’ve ever felt guilty about changing up your fitness routine or struggled with the idea of “starting over,” this episode is for you.
Your Fitness Journey Will Change—And That’s a Good Thing
There’s this pressure in the fitness industry to pick a lane and stay in it. You’re a runner. A CrossFitter. A yogi. A weightlifter.
But what if you love a little bit of everything? Or what if what used to light you up no longer does?
For Tara, fitness has always been a huge part of her life. She built her career in fitness, coached hundreds of people, and even competed at high levels. But over time, her body, mindset, and priorities changed.
And instead of fighting it, she embraced it.
Your fitness identity isn’t set in stone. Give yourself permission to evolve.
Listening to Your Body vs. Sticking to the Plan
Raise your hand if you’ve ever forced yourself through a workout, even when your body was screaming for rest. (Yep, guilty. 🙋♀️)
Tara used to be all about pushing through. No excuses. No missed workouts. But over time, she realized that tuning into her body’s needs was just as important as showing up.
Here’s what she’s learned:
✔ Rest is productive. Overtraining leads to burnout, injuries, and less progress, not more.
✔ Movement should feel good. If your workouts feel like punishment, it might be time to switch things up.
✔ Consistency > Intensity. It’s not about going hard all the time—it’s about building habits that you can sustain for life.
It’s okay to not stick to the plan if the plan isn’t serving you anymore. Your body knows what it needs—learn to trust it.
Letting Go of “All or Nothing” Thinking
How many times have you thought: If I can’t do the full workout, I might as well skip it?
That “all or nothing” mindset kills progress faster than anything.
Tara talks about how shifting away from rigid fitness rules helped her find more joy in movement. Instead of thinking, I have to train six days a week, she asks, How do I want to move today?
Some days, it’s lifting heavy. Other days, it’s a long walk or a yoga flow. The key? Showing up in a way that feels good and sustainable.
Fitness isn’t black and white. Find the gray area where you can move in a way that supports your body and mind.
Redefining Success in Fitness
For years, success in fitness was tied to numbers—how much weight you lifted, how fast you ran, how many calories you burned.
But what if success looked different?
For Tara, success now means:
✔ Feeling strong and capable in her body
✔ Having energy throughout the day
✔ Moving in ways that bring her joy
✔ Prioritizing health without obsession
Your fitness goals are allowed to change. What matters is that you’re moving in a way that makes you feel good—mentally and physically.
Redefine what success means for you. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress, consistency, and self-compassion.
What’s Next for Your Fitness Journey?
So, let’s talk: How has your fitness journey evolved?
Maybe you used to be a hardcore gym rat but now prefer hiking and pilates. Maybe you’re realizing that rest is just as important as training. Whatever it is—you’re not alone, and you don’t have to fit into a single “fitness box.”
